Where is the humanity goes?
I can't stop thinking why something so evil like this could happen. First I was shocked when read the news about a teenager Khairul Anuar Salim was stabbed to death because his being a gentlemen.
And then I'm more surprised because a hospital wouldn't admit him before he could come up with a large sum of money for deposit. What joke is this?
The article:
Youth killed for ticking off duo who teased girl
MUZLIZA MUSTAFA
DAMANSARA, SELANGOR, Nov 29
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An ‘A’-Level student was slashed to death — all because he chided two men, in English, for disturbing a girl who was with him.
Khairul Anuar Salim, whose father is a research officer in the Prime Minister’s Department, died two hours after he was attacked by two men, one armed with a sickle, outside a petrol station in Taman Muda, Cheras, on Saturday night.
His exact words to the assailants were: "Don’t disturb her, she’s a lady".
The assailants, it was reported, were miffed that he scolded them in English and they in turn, told him not to show off before one of them slashed him in the abdomen.
Khairul’s parents, who are based in Morocco, are expected to arrive today. The 18-year-old was buried at the Kiara Muslim cemetery yesterday afternoon. Khairul has an older sister, aged 29 and a 26-year-old brother.
His cousin, Norshazwani Sallehuddean, 18, who was at the petrol station, told The Malay Mail, she saw Khairul being slashed and his assailants escaping on a Yamaha RXZ motorcycle.
The incident occurred about 10pm when Khairul, his female friend and two cousins walked to the petrol station to buy a phone card.
Norshazwani and her brother went into the kiosk while the victim and his friend waited outside.
"The assailants turned up and started making cat-calls at Khairul’s friend. Initially, they ignored the duo. Then one of them approached the couple and that was when it turned ugly," she said.
She explained that Khairul had spent most of his life studying in foreign countries as his father was posted overseas.
Several months ago, he enrolled in an international school in Damansara. His brother is studying in the United States while his sister, who also works in the Prime Minister’s Department, is the only immediate family member Khairul had here.
"He could not speak Bahasa Malaysia, but that was no reason to kill him," his cousin said.
She said she screamed at the two suspects who jumped on a motorcycle and fled.
"When I reached Khairul, he looked pale. He related what had happened and collapsed. I did not expect him to die."
Khairul’s uncle, Sallehuddean Abdul Latiff, 42, an assistant sales director with a hotel, was distraught when met at the funeral yesterday. Khairul and his sister were at his house for a Hari Raya do.
"He was at my house, the petrol station is a stone’s throw away," he said.
"His sister went back home earlier while Khairul decided to stay back and spend more time with his cousins."
Sallehuddean rushed Khairul to the Pantai Medical Centre in Cheras but the boy died of his injury two hours later.
"I contacted his parents in Morocco and they are expected back early tomorrow. We could not keep the body any longer and went ahead with the funeral without his parents and brother," he said.
And this one was taken from
Malay Mail. I quote:
"Sallehuddean Latiff, the uncle of Khairul, feels his nephew could have been saved if doctors at a private hospital attended to him immediately.
“They wanted me to pay a deposit of RM5,000, saying his injuries were serious. I was not carrying so much money on me at that time,” he said.
“They did not want to admit him until I paid the deposit, not even when I pointed out that this was an emergency.”
Sallehuddean said he pleaded with the hospital staff but they would not budge.
He then returned to Khairul’s house in TTDI to pick up his grandmother.
“When I returned 30 minutes later, Khairul was still not treated. I had an argument with the hospital staff and when his condition worsened, they took him into the operation theatre.
“He was only treated an hour after he was taken to the hospital.”
Sallehuddean said a doctor came out an hour later and told the family that Khairul could not be saved.
He claimed the hospital did not want to release his body until the bill was settled.
The family paid RM4,800."
What's the different now with the thugs who stabbed him and the private hospitals that don't want to attend to him? Both are equally responsible for the death. Maybe we can understand the thugs, they're already stupid and dangerous, but how about the hospital? At least you could do was to attend the patient and stabilised him. Make sure he will not die then you could ask for money, at least. If there's no money you can just transfer him to other hospital.
As a private hospital they have the responsibilities to treat people, in case of emergency at the least. This is very disturbing news just after our police integrity being questioned a few days back.
